Sensei Liam Gallagher
About Sensei Liam
Liam Gallagher has been studying karate for more than 40 years and is a 6th Dan black belt under the Japan Karate Shoto Federation (JKS). A triple JKS European Champion and multiple British and Scottish title holder, Liam brings a lifetime of experience to every class.
He has trained extensively in Japan under world-renowned masters such as Masao Kagawa Shihan and Mikio Yahara Sensei, including time spent at Teikyo University Dojo – one of the most respected karate institutions in the world. These experiences have shaped his practical, disciplined, yet modern approach to teaching.
More Than Competition
While Liam’s competitive record is impressive, his true strength lies in how he connects with people. His classes are known for their positive energy, structure, and clear instruction. He believes karate should build confidence, character, and community – not just produce champions.
A Teacher and Mentor
As National Kata Coach for Karate Scotland and founder of Senjokai Karate Academy, Liam has mentored hundreds of students of all ages. Many have gone on to achieve black belts, compete internationally, or simply discover a lifelong love of martial arts.
Our Dojo Vision
Since opening Senjokai in 2011, Liam’s goal has been simple – to create a welcoming environment where everyone, from beginners to seasoned black belts, can learn authentic Japanese karate, improve fitness, and grow in confidence through discipline and respect.
